Catalyst Pop-Up Gallery
2017
Cardboard, Wood, Plastic, Acrylic Paint, Photoshop
This “L” shaped gallery utilizes two used shipping containers, a twenty foot and a forty foot, connected at the bend to create an improved space for Catalyst, the student body art society. Using compacted gravel and lumber, the base will level out and support the containers. Compacted gravel is also handicap accessible. The original doors on each end will be replaced with solid walls, and the doors themselves could potentially become interactive, space-saving gallery displays. Two roll-up metal doors will provide access into and out of the gallery. Plexiglass will line the bottom remainders of the containers; about 1 foot in height. These will double as emergency lights. Awnings, additional support, and Catalyst signage will be created from scrap metal. A sail shade will be installed above the entrances, and three solar panels on the back will power the gallery. The structure itself will be in the middle of the courtyard with signage and entrances facing ACT.
